Introduction:

Since the introduction of machine control into the civil construction industry, there have been many changes to the way survey work is carried out on a construction site. Machine control has also radically changed the efficiency and quality of earthworks. This thesis will be looking at machine control systems that are used on motor graders, with a discussion of how the components of a machine control system works and the different types of systems that are available.

Project Aim:

The scope of the project is to explain how the integration of survey technology with earthmoving equipment has led to the creation of machine control systems. The project will involve research into machine controls systems and will then discuss how the systems interacts with the machinery. The height quality and civil construction applications of the different machine control systems will be determined through the data analysis from conformance/as-built reports from rail sub-grade.
