BORESIGHT AND SCANNER CALIBRATION OF A MOBILE TERRESTRIAL LIDAR SYSTEM

Lidar technology became more and more popular in last decade. Many researchers contribute their innovations into the development of this new technology. The latest hot spot is the application of the Mobile Lidar System (MLS). To get accurate results from MLS data, one necessary procedure is to ensure the performance of the systems within the tolerance i.e. calibration. It is a challenge for end-users to appropriately carry out boresight calibration which is to calibrate the most critical errors boresight errors.

Besides the boresight calibration, the scanner calibration is also necessary from time to time. It is needed by the end-users to achieve high accurate project and indirectly reduce the cost of the scanner service annually. The aims of this thesis are giving suggestions on the improvement of existing boresight calibration process through analysing various calibration methods and to conduct a feasible test to verify the status of the scanners and/or solve the corresponding corrections.
