Chinese Automobile Firm to Launch 500 Satellites A Year to Guide Its Autonomous Cars

Early last month, Chinese automobile firm Geely has announced that it is constructing an intelligent satellite production and testing centre in Taizhou City for satellite guided navigation of its autonomous cars.

By the end of 2020, Geespace, which is the Geely operating company established in 2018 for the development, launch, and operation of low-orbit satellites, will begin the launch of its commercial low-orbit satellite network.

Geely Satellite Production and Testing Centre. Headquartered in Hangzhou, Zhejiang province, Geely aims to produce 500 satellites a year by around 2025, with around 300 highly-skilled staff. 

The upcoming cutting-edge facility, for which Geely Holding Group is investing 2.27 billion yuan ($326 million), will include a modular satellite manufacturing centre, satellite testing centre, satellite R&D centre, and cloud computing centre.
